The S520 Portable Dew Point Meter is a single hand‑held unit that allows users to easily perform on‑site measurements in compressed air and gas systems, providing dew point monitoring at the point‑of‑use. It is equipped with a unique triple‑sensor system: a QCM sensor (quartz crystal microbalance, developed through years of high‑tech research for low dew point applications where other sensor types fail), a well‑known polymer sensor, and an integrated pressure sensor. The combination of the QCM and polymer sensors enables the S520 to measure dew point accurately across the entire range from –100 °C Td up to +20 °C Td by automatically switching between the two sensor elements as needed. The integrated pressure sensor allows conversion of the measured value into any required humidity parameter, such as ppm(v) or atmospheric dew point, and also ensures that measurements are taken under actual line pressure conditions.
The device includes an innovative dew point end value prediction algorithm, which anticipates the final value based on the measurement curve, allowing users to predict the end value before it is actually reached. This feature saves significant time for on‑site engineers, enabling faster dew point audits, and is part of the optional smart features package. With the smart features option, users also gain access to a 5‑megapixel camera and a snapshot function for rapid measurement logging, all controllable via a touchscreen input for added convenience.
The S520 features a unique measuring chamber with an integrated parking function. When the instrument is not in use, the chamber can be set to the parking position, where the sensor is exposed to a desiccant that keeps it well protected and dry. As a result, when starting the next measurement, the sensor is pre‑dried and offers an ultra‑fast response time, making it ideal for air audits. Users can take a quick measurement snapshot, add customer information, and easily create a printed report, all directly on the device via the touchscreen.
The device allows generation of ISO 8573‑1 standard‑compliant PDF reports on‑site. The reports follow the recommendations of ISO 8573‑1, and customer‑related data as well as service provider details can be entered on‑screen, making audits and report creation easier. PDF reports can be created from any recordings stored on the device and copied swiftly to a connected USB drive. The reported pressure dew point in °C is stated both as the measured dew point under actual conditions and as a value referred to reference conditions of 20 °C and 7 bar(g), as required by the ISO 8573‑1 standard—this is made possible by the integrated pressure sensor.
In practice, the S520 enables plant operators to perform more accurate and frequent quality monitoring. Throughout any given day, personnel can check dew point at various points in their system, using the meter’s portability and detailed metrics to gather useful information even from the least accessible corners. Operators can ensure that their compressed air treatment system (air dryers, filters, and drains) is functioning at peak performance. If the S520 reveals heightened moisture levels during routine checks, personnel can quickly locate and resolve the issue, reducing instances of clogged filters and dryer problems. Additionally, SUTO offers an exchange calibration service for the S520, which eliminates downtime and allows users to maintain a seamless record of their dew point measurements.
