HIKMICRO SuperIR: An Advanced Algorithm for Enhancing Thermal Imaging Quality

SuperIR - an image optimization algorithm that significantly enhances thermal imaging quality, providing you with clearer and more detailed images.

SuperIR technology is based on a neural network algorithm that is trained on a vast number of images to enhance thermal imaging quality. Unlike other simple interpolation algorithms, SuperIR increases image size by 4 times more and improves image details while reducing edge jags and noise, resulting in sharper thermal images. This helps you make informed decisions, save time, and reduce costs.

Advantages

Compared to traditional multi-frame super-resolution technology, SuperIR has unique advantages. It not only achieves 25 Hz real-time super-resolution but also allows you to observe the optimized image in real-time on the thermal imaging device without exporting the image to PC software for processing. This means that you can immediately obtain clear and detailed images without waiting for processing time.

  • Noise Reduction and Edge Enhancement - single frame SuperIR technology combined with noise reduction technology and edge enhancement technology. With the new pixels, the noise will be smaller, which will make the edges of the image smoother and reduce jagged edges.
  • Continuous Algorithm Improvement - Enhancements to image clarity and algorithm improvements are available to customers with firmware upgrades without having to invest in a new thermal camera.
  • No movement - Compared with conventional multi-frame super-resolution, single-frame SuperIR doesn't require vibrations and motion introduced by the user’s hand to gain interpolated pixels for upscaled images. It can be enabled even if the camera is mounted on a tripod, and obtain correctly focused and upscaled pixels crisp images. Imagine that, when inspecting the head over power lines through an ultra-telephoto lens, a slight hand movement will lead to out-of-focus images, which is required with conventional multi-frame super-resolution. No such problem with HIKMICRO SuperIR technology.
  • On-camera Algorithm - SuperIR produces upscaled pixel images directly on the camera without the hassle of importing images from the imager to compatible software to create the upscaled image.

We have successfully applied SuperIR technology to most of the HIKMICRO Thermography product lines, especially the Eco, BxS and Pocket Series. These products support the Live SuperIR algorithm, allowing you to experience excellent image optimization effects in real-time scenarios. Additionally, other products also support the Captured Image SuperIR algorithm, allowing you to capture Thermal images and optimize them at any time.

To provide you with a better SuperIR experience, our Windows PC software also supports image SuperIR optimization. You can export thermal images from the thermal imaging device to your computer and upload them to HIKMICRO Analyzer to easily enable SuperIR for image optimization. This provides you with more flexible options to process images according to your actual needs.

SuperIR technology is specifically designed to meet the focus points of home inspectors, electricians, auto mechanics, PCB inspectors, pipeline workers, and DIY homeowners, including image quality, detail clarity, and operational convenience. This technology enables you to work with greater accuracy and efficiency.

Principle – HIKMICRO SuperIR

The HIKMICRO SuperIR upscaled pixels by neural network technology. As you can see from the images below, the blue triangles indicate the original pixels, and the red triangles are the pixels predicted after calculation. The upscaled image pixels are not simply copying or averaging the surrounding pixels, these are interpolating predictive pixels calculated by the advanced neural network algorithm libraries. There are relative algorithm models for different scenes and target objects, which not only boost image quality and enhance the image details, but also reduce the edges jags, and noises.
